most of my images are meticulously "built" as photo-montages, but this one is a straight photo with just a whisper of texture. yes, my dog zippy really did lay out by the fence as this impressive herd of elk appeared on the hill. since cattle graze heavily on the neighbor's property while mine has been fallow for the nine years i've owned it, my six acres features thick grass-- and this is a temptation to the elk. this is an animal shelter with currently 20 dogs, so by day, alas this is as close as the elk can come. at night though the dogs come indoors, and the property is theirs.
