Puerto Peñasco is the easiest coastal town to reach from phoenix arizona, just a couple of hours to the south. the town, also called 'rocky point' has some charm but the view of open ocean and it's wealth of wintering shorebirds--after miles of rugged desert-- is most welcoming. the horizon was dotted with shrimp boats, and in the distance beyond was the mountains of the baja peninsula. i shown a brown pelican sailing past.
